MY HOUSE IS NOT READY FOR MORPHBERRY AND I MUST MAKE IT SO NOW!!!!!

AAAAAUUUUUUGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!

AKA: BRB nesting.

I know I promised a travelogue and another update *sob*
magharabi: (Default)
So. Yesterday was husby's birthday. It's the first year he's actually felt like celebrating it. He had the whole weekend off, miraculously enough, and I made him a cake (with sprinkles! Though I kept insisting on calling them sparkles for some strange reason) and filled it full of any and all birthday candles we had kicking around the house and had a merry old time trying not to burn myself while lighting them. Saturday night we made sea salt ice cream (which would be delicious... if it weren't so salty. A recipe adjustment is in order, I believe). We marathoned Water 7 and Enies Lobby, nommed on cantaloupe (a favorite treat of his) and thought for a few hours that I might be going into super pre-term labor or was leaking amniotic fluid (THANKFULLY, neither seems to be the case).

It was a really full day.

This Thursday we get our 20 week ultrasound! Featuring a preemie baby peep show! So. There ought to be a game.

Comment with predictions. First three who get it right get custom icons. ^_^

Not nearly as exciting as the first, since we didn't get an ultrasound done today. But baby is doing good.

tl;dr and probably some tmi under the cut woot! )

SOME NAMES WE ARE CONSIDERING:

Laurel Ann, Laurelyn, Kaylee, Sadie, Zachary, Elijah, Michael. Our last name is Ligon (lih-GONE). I'm sure we'll be more creative once we figure out if Morphberry is a boy or a girl. *nod nod*

Book Recs?

Well, so. We've finally received our first utility bills from the city, which means that we can prove we are actually residents. Which means we can get library cards. Which means I can actually read a book that I haven't read before.

Problem is, I have NO IDEA of any titles or authors I'd like to possibly check out.

Help?

Clicky for stuff I liked, and other infos )

Wednesday was my first visit to an OB/GYN. I have heard that they usually don't bother doing an ultrasound until 20 weeks (and I'm only at 12) BUT he did one anyway! Apparently he likes to do them at about 9 weeks. So.

Ultrasound pics and tl;dr aplenty under the cut! )

So. Sorry for the wall o' text. It's been awhile since I updated and, as you can see, A LOT has happened. ^_^ It's so exciting!

Icon post!

Got some new (to some of you) icons up over at [livejournal.com profile] chaskaloca.

The rest are [here]

Enjoy!
magharabi: (Luffy~ oohyay)
Ok, so yesterday, lots of freaking out and wondering how I was ever going to get everything done in the next two weeks. Well, I went up to meet my husband at work so we could check out another apartment, and apparently he started having pretty much the exact same misgivings that I was, at the same time that I did. And we just... never told each other. Because we were both afraid that we'd frustrate each other. Heh.

SO! We're still most likely moving, but not right away. Which gives me time to focus on the studio work that needs to be done for our next show and not feel guilty about it. It gives me time to pack up the things we aren't using often, get the landlord's permission to store them in the unused bedroom downstairs, and give this apartment a really REALLY good Spring cleaning. It gives me time to freaking breathe.

\o/

[And randomly? The icon I'm using has got to be one of the ugliest icons I've ever made. Heh.]
magharabi: (Al~ Got your back)
So we've been looking at moving a little closer to my husband's job, for a couple of reasons.

Reasons behind cut because I <3 my f-list )

TL;DR: Hey, someone with ESP who can see into the future? Mind stopping by? I could use a bit of insight on what to do.

Icon post over at [livejournal.com profile] chaskaloca!

19 Aquarius icons!

In the words of CC: *___* BOOBIES!

Yes.
magharabi: (Robin~ shucks)
I want to make a journal dedicated to my icons (of which I will someday eventually post more. I've gotten better, amazingly enough), as well as other digital projects as they come along. Problem is, I can't think of a suitable name. So far the best I can come up with is braingoo, which fulfills my desire for something random, memorable, and evocative. But I think it evokes the wrong emotion. I see green goo coming out of someone's ears and eyes, and that's not a pretty picture. I'm looking for something a bit... prettier? Funner sounding?

Help?

Edit: UPDATE!!!

Here are a few of the available options I've randomly pulled out of those weird corners of my mind, and a little bit about the psychology behind them.

glittergloo- It's kind of whimsical and childlike. You know, when we were kids and the coolest thing EVER was the sparkly glitter glue we sometimes got to use for crafts and such? But it's got the creative spelling thing going on, too, which shows that I'm either totally hip or completely cliche (and I'll admit readily to both).

wonderlanderful- It's kinda fun to say. And it's a mix between wonderland, and wonderful. Will cause dyslexic fits.

michiycha- Yeah, no one will get this one unless they're from Peru or Bolivia. It's basically "neko-chan", but in Quechua. (My precious) Little Cat. (Guess who came to lay on my hands at that moment? >.>)

yachay_sumaq- More Quechua because they have the prettiest language. Too bad so few people have actually ever heard of it. This means "beautiful knowledge". Hard to spell, though. A little too gutteral.

chaskaloca- This one amuses me, because it's a mix of Spanish and Quechua. It means "crazy star". I was thinking of a One Piece opener (my favorite to date) when I came up with it. Too bad "rainbow" is an awkward word in both Spanish and Quechua.

cosmicdew- A shoutout to one of my favorite movies, Kung-Fu Panda. It is said that the Dragon Warrior can live for months on the dew of a single ginko leaf, and the energy of the universe. Like Po, my brain translates that to something much shorter... and less physically filling. It's still a pretty name, though.

dusk_to_day- This one actually stems from my longest standing internet handle- and pretty much my online identity- magharabi. Magharabi is actually a misspelling of the Swahili word magharibi, which means "dusk" or "twilight". It's that tricky, sometimes magical time of day when it isn't quite night yet, but it certainly isn't broad daylight. I think of warm colored sunsets and cool breezes. Strangely enough, it's my favorite time of day to play softball (inorite? wtf?). And the "to day" part is important, because it's like, a follow-through. Not just until dawn, but until the sun is completely out and bright and happy. Not only has life managed to make it through the dark hours, but has continued on into the light. Anyway.

fireflys_dream- This one is just kinda... Ok, so I had Owl City in my head, and "sockhop_beneath_my_bed" is way too long. It's still cute. And will cause heaven only knows how many impressionable youth to forever spell the bugs' plural form incorrectly. I'm a horrible, subtly mischievous person, what can I say?

Aaaaaanyway. Which is your favorite, and which best represents me, in your mind?

Randomly?

I find this both distasteful, and heartening at the same time. It's distasteful because the economy didn't only screw over black people, and getting upset at Obama for trying to help everybody instead of just black people is, in my opinion, not helping to promote the equality I thought we were all striving for. And what about the Latinos, the Asians, the Polynesians, the Native Americans? I'm pretty sure they got fired, laid off, and misused by banks as much as, if not more than, black people. In fact, it's been hard on us all, no matter what color our skin, no matter if we're male or female. We all got screwed. (Well, ok, except for a slim few who probably don't even make up 1% of the population.) It's heartening because it seems like Obama understands this.

Obama added that he cannot pass laws "that say I'm just helping black folks. I'm the president of the entire United States. What I can do is make sure that I am passing laws that help all people, particularly those who are most vulnerable and most in need. That, in turn, is going to help lift up the African-American community."

Indeed.

Also? HOT BOOTS. But really, $395.00? Srsly? They aren't quite that hot.

Well, since I've kinda been around LJ for awhile, I probably ought to not be a loser and actually offer something to the friends that I've made over the past year. You guys have put up with me for awhile, and you honestly mean a lot to me. Some of you have really helped digitally hold my hands through some really rough patches, and my life would be a lot sadder without you. Others have popped by from time to time just to say "Hey, that's cool," and that rocks, too! So, I'm thinking what I'll do is draw a little postcard that I'll send to everyone for the holidays. You most likely won't get it by Christmas, though I'll try my darnedest to get them out as quick as possible.

Since a part of the Holiday gift giving for me is being able to grant a small wish, I thought I'd post a poll and see what kind of postcard image y'all want. Majority rules, less stepped on toes, that whole bit. >.>

Anyway, answer the polls, and then comment with your address if you want one in the mail. Comments are screened and I promise not to stalk you by looking up your address in google maps and staring at your house.

This, by the way, is open to EVERYONE, no matter how often we've talked or not. If you're on my f-list or somehow find your way here, chances are we're connected somehow and I say, the more the merrier.

So, it's been forever since I updated my journal. I'm so sorry, guys! There just... really hasn't been much interesting to say. I mean. Unless you find whining about being sick (in various forms) and twisting an ankle entertaining... >.>

ALTHOUGH! I spent the last few weeks at Afterglow Studios (the website really needs to be updated... orz) painting hooves and manes/tails because there was a show this weekend in St. George. The boss left on Friday. I got done with a fresian black's hooves late the night before. He was like, TOTALLY last minute rushed, right? And I'm freaking out because she used this weird red-blue shift powdery stuff so the black isn't actually black it's kind of purple-ish and I lucked out in managing to actually hand mix a combination that looked similar enough to do feathering on the hooves, and I know this is like, the ONE CHANCE I'll have at getting it done because 1) there's no tomorrow, and 2) I will NEVER get this paint combination again so even if there was a tomorrow for it, it wouldn't have mattered. Anyway. So. Late Thursday I'm finishing up with little hairs going down over the hooves and got to the point where the paint was just too diluted to be workable and said, "Aw, screw it. I don't care anymore," and cleaned up the brushes without doing a completely uniform job, as far as styling goes. The boss had complained that his hooves were too white and looked funny anyway so I figured after he did crappy at the show she'd bring him home and I'd have a chance to play with them some more without the last minute OMGRUSH! and do a really stellar job, right?

Well.

I got a text message Saturday morning telling me he'd just won the workmanship class for black horses. That's right. WON. Which is totally shiny and I'm elated, but it also means that because he won he's NAN qualified (which is the big Nationals show they have once a year) and that means that we can't actually change anything about the paint job or the finish until after NAN. Except that because he took first, he'll probably sell rather well and we'll ship him off with his NAN cards and never see him again. Also, STELLAR, but now I'll never get to actually make his hooves look... idk... uniform? And I know it's going to bug me until he's gone. >.>

Ok, now I'm just complainin' cuz really. Your horse won, cry moar! Haha. Anyway. I need to text Alley and find out how the others did. We finished another bay just before the fresian, and did some re-working on this like, psychotically shiny, sunny palomino who got dust in her gloss coat at the last show, up here in Orem.

In other news... Um. I started writing out Christmas cards in the hopes that they'll get sent out by January? Yeah... Hey! If any of my online buddies wants a little sumpin' in the mail for Christmas/New Years/Hannakuh/Kwanzaa/the Holidays, PM me your addies. I find I need to give myself reasons for drawing (Ha! And I call myself an artist) so making a little Holidays postcard for friends would actually be kinda fun. ^_^

At the behest of [livejournal.com profile] bookelfe, I am posting my initial thoughts on the show Legend. I could never hope to be as witty and entertaining as her post recommending the show, so I will state simply that it is entertaining enough to be watchable, whimsical enough to intrigue the fantasy fan, the acting is not so terrible that you'll choke but not so incredibly serious that you can't make fun of it, and the special effects are a bit clunky but cool enough that even I was gleeing over the pretty critters.

This is a much more thorough and entertaining look at the show.

This is a website where you can watch the episodes for yourself.

Happy viewing!
magharabi: (ahiru)
Wow, I totally forgot I had these. I made them at the beginning of the year as part of a secret santa exchange, so that dates them a bit. I had a lot of help from people suggesting color songs for me, though, which I appreciate beyond belief, so I wanted to post them and let you all see how they turned out. ^_^

Cut to save your f-lists. )

Since I'm really getting into iconning right now (I'm so excited about the Master and Commander ones I made last night! Hee!) I simply could not pass up this particular meme. I don't know where it originated, but I got it from [livejournal.com profile] prpl_pen.

SO!

1. Choose an episode of an anime or television series you have on your computer. Make sure you're certain you want that one, you cannot change or mind once you skip this step. DO NOT TELL YOUR FLIST WHAT YOU CHOSE.
2. Make note of how long the episode is here -> 23:06
3. Ask your f-list to choose a time between 00:00 and whatever the length of your episode is. Be specific, (ie: 19:11, 21:09, 02:42)
4. Make them an icon using THAT FRAME ONLY no matter what it is. And remember, you can only use that ONE episode you chose previous, even if the person posting isn't familiar with it.

SPAM ME NOW!!! I'll make the icons after church today. ^_^

Jaa ne!

Edit: Ok, since it looks like I've gotten as many requests as I'm going to get, I thought I'd list my resources and whatnot. You know, give credit where credit is due. SO!

I used this table generator to post the images because I fail at LJ.

This texturing tutorial by [livejournal.com profile] iconsbycurtana is where I referenced texturing methods and a number of the textures used.

Light textures by [livejournal.com profile] uncreativ

Frame and color textures by [livejournal.com profile] eowyn_rus

And of course, One Piece, made by Toei and Eiichiro Oda. ^_^

Edit2: I re-organized my photobucket account, so I apologize for all the broken links. You can see them here.
