Breath of fresh air
Mar. 20th, 2007 09:53 amWell, again it's been a long time since I've updated here. Sorry, my dA journal has also been abandoned for the last little while as well. RL and laziness, I blame you!
So, what have I been doing with my life? Lots of stressing. I had a huge workload at work right before spring break, plus midterms (one of which was a TWO DAY midterm... *dies*). Plus a print due, my first time working with aquatints. so that took a long time as well. I totally skipped out on two assignments for my political research class. But I can make up the points in other assignments. I've been getting good grades, and I just hit a point where there was *too much* for my brain to handle. Something had to give. it doesn't help things that I have to work my butt off in order to get C grades in my english class. I really feel I'm not getting the grade I deserve for the work I do in it. Then, my roommate got married at the beginning of spring break, so there was a lot of running around for that as well. She had me paint some kanji on her wedding cake, and that turned out beautiful. I wish I had gotten some pictures, though. Oh well. I'm sure someone took pictures of it. I didn't get done with their wedding present until after the wedding, though. I bought some long sheets of rice paper from my Japanese calligraphy teacher, and used them to write the kanji for "love bird" (a nickname I used for them), which I then mounted on a scroll. It was a lot bigger a project than I expected, but it turned out really nice, and they said that they liked it a lot, so that made me happy. Plus, now I have an idea of what I can do for a final project in my class, and it won't be nearly as difficult at the end of the year. Then there was Anime Oasis in Boise. I thought I'd try my hand at selling personalized calligraphy. I guess I did alright, but mostly I just got some good practice for my class. Sold about 10, at a buck a pop, which, for kanji is basically stealing. But I think it was just the wrong audience. Kanji isn't cute, and it doesn't have anime itself on it. It is very beautiful, and full of history and a large part of Japan itself. But people don't want japanese culture, they just want japanese anime. Oh well. I learned a lot about different kanji from a book that Liz loaned to me for the con, so I'm still happy that I did it. And Nyu-sama made beautiful costumes for everyone, and it was my first time cosplaying. That was an entertaining experience. I had a Hakkai costume for the second day of the con, and cosplayed Light on the last day. It was kinda weird having random people come up and hug me. Sometimes I had to remember that I was in costume and that was why they were coming up to me, because I'd look at them funny at first. hehe. But the con itself was kinda crappy, too. There didn't seem to be much organization, and very few events. So some random exhibitionist people started acting rather lewd in the hallways right in front of Liz's Angsty Bishy stand. It was rather annoying, and the whole con was kinda overshadowed by that sort of action. It spread into all of the cosplay events, which were basically the only events held at the con. So I don't know if I'll go back next year or not. If I do, I'm definately just going to cosplay and stuff. Salt Lake is a different matter. I'm actually looking forward to trying to sell stuff there. Anyway. Class is done. Heh. Later!
