I love it how they all have the exact same faces, too. Someone was obviously trying hard to make them all fit in at school, cuz they all look like the same character, with different hairdos. (Even the guys. o.0)
It's a marketing ploy. If you like one, you like them all. Equally. Thus, when it comes time to buy cell phone straps and figurines, you can't decide which one you want the most, so you end up getting them all.

Actually, the idea of making it into a Manga really isn't that bad. It's just... the lack of originality? the awful character designs and cookie cutter art? ... that hurts my brain the most.
